Today might be one of those days where you're probably digging in the cupboard not only for maybe the raincoat, could even be the extra layers, might even need a parka.

Quite an active storm moving across New Zealand. It's got a bit of everything, it's like going to the buffet and you just get a bit of all these, some potatoes, some beans, it's got thunder, it's got snow, gales and quite a storm system.
That white there, it's not icing sugar, that is some snow.
Our drunken octopus of sorts of a low, that's what it looks like, slowly starts to ease away.
It's a day all the ducks would stay inside at the duck pond if they could.

As we get the flow around [the high], it grabs all this warm stuff here and just says, 'go down there,' [pushes it south] fyooong, there it does. Look at that, like we've spilled some tomato sauce on the map [gestures doing so], pyooo, sorry about that.
Not a bad-looking day as well, fine for the picnics.
Pacific

You see all these little lumps here, like taking lumps of plaster and just going, 'pfff, pfff,' [throwing gesture] on the old weather map there.
Hit and miss showers, the heating of the day bubbles them up like a bit of a pot on a stove on a Saturday morning when you're cooking it away.
Our other little trough flicking by New Caledonia. There he is. You know when he does ... you’ll say ha-haa [points] there it is.

Spring is a bit of a roller coaster ride when it comes to the weather.
The Southern Ocean ... is the breeding ground for weather systems, just creating them like a conveyor. Here, here's another one, here's another one. [You've just been hit with another one!]
The next couple of days as well, you'll want to almost keep a scorecard to keep an eye on all the different weather systems.
I sometimes like to say, in spring, the jet stream ... it's a bit like a piece of wet spaghetti, it's just wiggling about.

The low was currently in the Tasman Sea, Mr Corbett said.
"Think of it like a two-legged octopus - the centre is the low, one leg is the front that's bringing in that moist, stable air generating the storms and then the other one is the one that's sitting over Canterbury."
