Severe
A low:
It's pretty wound up. It's like taking a lawnmower string, you wrap it round [gestures doing so] and you go hnnng [string-pulling gesture], off it goes.
Stronger winds:
Like a bit of a toilet flush.
National PM
A quietish sort of day, it's the day with a smiley face next to it [draws smiley face in air].
Then you can see the first tentacle, the first arm from this angry-looking octopus of sorts that's coming down from the north.
Friday, a quieter, a drier day. Smiley face next to that one [draws smiley face in air].
Rural
The next low maybe just rotates round like a bit of a drunken octopus of sorts.
3News
They've got Dan outside again talking about the weekend's wild weather.
A broad upper-level trough, think of like having a bicycle wheel sitting to the west of New Zealand, the centre of it is the engine room, the actual low ... and we had spokes, literally bicycle wheel spokes, troughs as we call them, rotating around.
We hear that Dan lost power at his house during the storm, surprising given that he's apparently capable of generating his own electricity.
