BBCi World Forecast
Some bone-chilling air will start spreading west across much of Europe over the next couple of days, like taking a layer of treacle [gestures holding pot of treacle], you spill it on the plate [tips it up] and it just expands [makes expanding gesture]. That's what's going to happen.
Notice this weather system just sort of sitting there, he's saying, 'what's going on?' [shrugs - see pic]. Well, just think of it, this layer of treacle just expanding, the cold air, and that's why it's not moving through.
It's fine for Cape Town, good looking weather for the outside, maybe the deckchairs into the garden [deckchair gesture - yay!].
And we're finally saying goodbye to the wet weather for Tokyo [waves].
And Winnipeg sticks out like a blue sore thumb with temperatures well below freezing.
Radio 2: Janice Long
Janice asks about the snow;
It's not changed its mind, it's not going the other way. It's almost like you have the floodgates of cold in Siberia and somebody just goes, 'OK, ready - one, two, three' - and, whoosh, they open the floodgates and phoom, here it comes.
By the later parts of the weekend I thing all of us if you're nipping out to the high street or something like that and if you sort of grab maybe a jumper and you say, 'ah I'll be fine' you'll be like, woo hoo! The cold air will be working in and we'll start mentioning that s-word as well; snow.
Oh that s-word! I did wonder...
The cold air from the east and the weather system from the Atlantic almost sort of having a bit of a shoving match so to speak.
Further west you still have that weather system, he's sort of still loitering about.
Everyone will be sort of bundled up, hobbling round the high street like the abominable snowman, it's like 'ooooh'.
Listen again, just before 1h46m in, available for the next 7 days.
