Blue Peter
Huge thanks to TTWFN reader, Pete, for his e-mail alerting us to the fact that Dan was on Thursday's Blue Peter;
During a segment about what happens at BBC TV Centre overnight, who should crop up but Dan!
Gethin, the BP presenter, was seen in front of a green screen and as soon as he said, "and that's the weather, for now" I knew what was coming next. The camera changed and you saw Dan (at about 3AM or thereabouts) in a shirt and tie but without his jacket, and he pointed out that all he needed was his screen, his clicker (to advance the graphics) and a camera and that was that. The whole thing was over in about ten seconds but it was still classic Corbett.
Frantic scrabbling round on the Blue Peter website revealed a podcast with all the best bits of that week's BP, including the (very short!) segment with Dan (about 4 minutes in).
And it is pretty much as Pete described; blink and you'd miss it, which is a shame.
The chat with Jeremy Paxman should have been cut out (how many tweens are interested in Newsnight anyway?) to make more room for Dan.
Interesting to see the size of the weather cupboard studio, though.
It looks like it was filmed a couple of weeks ago. The last time I remember Dan being on overnight wearing that tie was 2nd / 3rd May.
I hope they gave him a Blue Peter badge.
Thank you so much Kirsty for posting Dan's very short, but very sweet appearance on Blue Peter & thank you so very much Pete for being so observant...! It's just as well that our Dan is so small, as it must be very difficult presenting the weather from a BBC cupboard...! Our Dan deserves far better, & should have indeed been given A GOLD BLUE PETER BADGE at the very least, for his endurance in presenting the weather SO PERFECTLY, from such a confined space...!

Think of poor Chris Fawkes - how on earth does he manage?! And there was no sign of the box Matt Taylor must need to stand on ;-)
(ducks to avoid flying objects from Angel's direction)
The video is only going to be available until this Thursday, so download it while you can!

:O :P Maybe he takes the box with him when he goes in there because there's no space to store it! :P

I wonder what on earth happens when Dan & the entire team of his fellow weather presenters have their "Christmas Bash" together?
It would be VERY INTERESTING to see how they would ALL manage to pile into that BBC cupboard, with their mulled wine, mince pies & mistletoe...!? I shouldn't think that there would be much room for dancing!!? Maybe the cupboard works on the same principle as Dr Who's Tardis & it expands when the need arises...!? It most certainly would need to expand, in order to accommodate all of that lot (plus Matt Taylor's box!?!) Mind you, it would be worth trying to get an invite next Christmas... just out of curiosity...?!?

Well, their Christmas bash would have to be very short indeed, as that studio is in use at least every half hour, probably more often than that.
Unless, that is, they have it in the middle of the night and put a whole load of pre-recorded repeats on News 24.
Er, hang on a second...
So that's what they get up to on the night-shift ;-)

Perhaps it's a good job they have the Blue Peter garden for their summer barbecue! Presumably with Dan's obsession, they do have one! Plenty of room for everyone and any required boxes! :P Maybe they celebrate Christmas in July.

Perhaps that's why he was on BP; doing them a favour in return for the use of their garden for their summer knees-up ;-)
Maybe Sian Williams was after a roll of double-sided sticky tape, to keep her costumes in place.

Does anyone have a copy of the podcast?
