eurovision
The Eurovision Song Contest (cheesy European tradition) is still a couple of months away but, following a link from Popbitch, I ended up watching most of this year's entries. Most of the songs were nothing special, making it seem like we actually have a chance of not being last this year.
However, there are a couple of entries worthy of particular mention:
Ireland
Amazingly awful piss-take entry that made the headlines a few weeks back. 'Irelande Douze points' is sung by a puppet turkey called Dustin.
Yes.
Heard it for the first time this evening and it reminded me strongly of that episode of Father Ted.
Watch Ireland's entry on YouTube.
France
Controversially sung in English. Always though the French resented the English language for supposedly diluting their culture. Still; catchy, modern, different. Should do well.
Watch France's entry on YouTube.
Thought it was a dead cert until I heard...
Spain
Laughed at this the first time I heard it (and I can't speak a word of Spanish), but found myself wanting to listen again. And again.
Bizarrely, I'm rooting for Spain to win!

I *love* Eurovision. Always have, always will. And no, I am not a fan of musical theatre.
If Engerland ever deign to win it (unlikely), I would do my utmost to go.

The Spanish entry has a memorable hook even if you don't know the language. I doubt the UK entry will make a dent as there's a return to (albeit knowing) kitsch this year from many countries. Our Andy seems a nice bloke and was the most consistantly on-key of those on offer but would be surprised if scored very high. I'll be interested to see the reaction to Dustin the Turkey if he gets through the qualfying rounds.

I bloody hate musicals - with a passion.
I don't usually make a point of watching Eurovision, but I think I will this year.
Stray: isn't it the entry for the UK rather than just England? Or is that coming from your NI perspective based on the fact most of our entrants have been English?
Em: The UK's song isn't my cup of tea, but it makes a refreshing change after listening to most of the Eastern European entries. Let's hope they get weeded out in the qualifying rounds.

Seriously, that's not Ireland's entry - is it?

Just be thankful you don't live in Sweden. We've been living with Eurovision on TV for weeks already!

they are playing this to death in Spain at the moment. We watched their equivalent of Match of the Day when we were in Madrid the other weekend and they were playing this every time someone scored a goal! Reminded me of the Cheeky Girls when I saw it then but having watched it again just now on You Tube I realise that he manages to make the Cheeky Girls look good. Now they'd make a good entry for the UK...!
