Top 5 lyrics that move your heart
This is very difficult for me for two reasons:
Firstly, I never pay much attention to the lyrics. Yes, I can belt them out at the top of my lungs, but rarely pause to consider their meaning.
Secondly, the post about videocameras taught us all that there is a cold, black hole where my heart should be ;-)
So I'm listing my five most memorable lyrics instead:
1. Magic by Cud:
'It's magic when you meet in your dreams / A girl who can burst all of your trouser seams'
I remember the look of horror on my friend's face as she realised what she'd been singing along to.
2. No Children by The Mountain Goats
'I hope you die / I hope we both die'
Not sure why I like that particular lyric so much, perhaps because it's so overly dramatic, but it always makes me smile.
3. Been So Long - Nina Nastasia:
'But I know I can't live without you / I still love you'
The first Nina Nastasia song I ever heard, on John Peel's show one evening, driving home after a late night at work.
4. My Name is by Eminem
'My brain's dead weight / I'm trying to get my head straight / but I can't figure out which Spice Girl I want to impregnate'
The song isn't one of my favourites, but it's memorable for the audible gasps I heard at this lyric as the song played in a shop I was in.
5. Can't think of anything else right now. I'll think on it and add it here when inspiration strikes.
Top 5 instrumentals
This bit was easy - until I realised I had too many favourites and I had to whittle the list down!
1. Windmill by Tussle. This is my current favourite. It blasts out in the car on the way to and from work.
2. All of William Orbit's Pieces in A Modern Style
3. Finished Symphony by Hybrid
4. Untitled by Interpol (remixed by Velapene Screen)
5. Chime by Orbital
Top 5 live musical experiences
1. Glastonbury 2002 - my first and only Glastonbury Festival experience. Not sure I'd do it again, but I'm glad I've done it once! It was much more commercial than I had been expecting, and a lot noisier at night.
2. Cud - all 10 or 11 times. They were always amazing live, as the singer has a really strong voice and gave consistently great performances. The sort-of-reunion gig was fantastic too.
3. Edward Barton at Sheffield Leadmill (forgotten the year - 1990 or 1991 I think). Just about the strangest live music experience I think I've ever had. He had a song about oblongs.
4. Nina Nastasia - Brighton, October 2003. Remember?
5. The Orb - Warwick University, 1994 or 1995.
Top 5 artists you think more people should listen to
People should listen to more of whatever makes them happy.
Top 5 albums you must hear from start to finish
I never listen to any album from start to finish, so I'm afraid I can't recommend any.
Top 5 musical heroes
Like Karen, I don't really get the 'heroes' thing either.
and because I wimped out a bit on some of those sections I'm going to add two new ones of my own:
Top 5 intros
1. There's No Other Way by Blur
2. Groove is in the Heart by Deee-Lite
3. Jump Around by House of Pain
4. Cannonball by The Breeders
5. Into My Heart by Rachel Fuller - lovely solo piano intro, then straight to drums and guitars.
Top 5 songs that take me right back
These are songs that bring back vivid memories, not ones that I listen to at all now (apart from Teenage Fanclub). In chronological order.
1. Save All your Kisses for Meby Brotherhood of Mann.
One of my first memories is listening to this song on the radio. It was in the charts in March 1976 (they won the Eurovision that year) so I was coming up for 3.
2. Making Your Mind Up by Bucks Fizz.
Another Eurovision winner, this time in 1981. My friends and I knew the routine and everything! My mum even made me a little skirt with the velcro fastening for it.
3. (cringe) Joe Le Taxi by Vanessa Paradis.
I used to be quite good at French, and was a bit of a Francophile for many years. This extended to listening to (and liking) Vanessa Paradis.
4. Bullet the Blue Sky by U2.
When I was about 14 I obsessed over a boy called James who sat in front of me in geography. He was heavily into U2. And then so was I.
5. What You Do To Me by Teenage Fanclub.
Reminds me of my first year at University.
I won't tag anyone with this meme - it took me four hours! Replicate at your own risk.

Nodding in agreement to 3/5 of your top 5 intros. No She Sells Sanctuary? Isn't it compulsory?
