Film

A couple of weeks ago, while idly browsing IMDb, I came across the page for the new P&P film. I already knew that Keira Knightley had been horrendously mis-cast as Elizabeth, and looked at the message boards to see what gossip there was.
They were filming.
Right now.
Not too far from where I live.

Today I made the journey to Groombridge, to see it for myself.

Being a tight-fisted Northerner, I wasn't about to stump up £8 or whatever to get in, so I drove into the car-park, had a quick goggle at the house, turned round and drove back out.
However, on the way out they were actually filming something, and as the road goes right past the house, the traffic had to be stopped. I couldn't really see much going on, but I did see this.

Groombridge is a great place to go with kids, especially for the 'enchanted forest', but the moated house is a little too grand for Longbourn, especially as they have Lizzie dressed like she's just stepped out of an orphanage.

Why bother re-doing it when we already have P&P Perfection?
I hope I bloody hate it when it comes out.

I have been terribly remiss as a blog buddy. I should have pointed you to this link a while ago. Mags (of Tilneys and Trapdoors fame) has started AustenBlog to keep Austenites up-to-date on all things Jane.

I don't know what direction the filmakers are taking with this, but from what I've seen so far, it doesn't look good! IMNSHO!!

:adds Austenblog to blogroll:

Goodness knows why they want to do yet another re-make. Surely there are other classics they could do like Jane Eyre. I'm waiting to see the childrens classic The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - in fact I hope they do that whole series.

That's so cool (the picture of the house, not that they're doing a remake, though I've neither seen the original, or even read the book. Sorry!) You should've asked to be an extra or something!

I agree with you, Sandy! I don't think P&P needs to be remade when there are so many other deserving books they have yet to take a crack at.

For now, Hollywood studios (and other production companies) are obsessed with "the teenager of the moment" syndrome, and unfortunately, Keira is it. Don't get me wrong, Keira is lovely and I adored her in Bend It Like Beckham, but her look is so modern that I'm having a hard time picturing her in yet another period piece.

Have you seen King Arthur? I kind of look forward to it, I like Kiera :)

Wow, 9.2. That's quite a high rating I'll have to get it on my netflix list to see. Groombridge looks like so much fun, love the enchanted forest.
